Agartala, 27th May 2024: GB Hospital, the state’s top referral hospital and its trauma care center have been severely impacted by a recent wave of natural disasters, resulting in a significant power outage. For approximately 30 minutes, the trauma care center was plunged into darkness creating a dire situation for both patients and medical staff.
During the blackout, doctors and health workers at GB Hospital were forced to provide critical medical services using mobile lights and torches. The lack of electricity also rendered fans inoperative, exacerbating the discomfort for patients, who were left shivering in the stifling heat.
A family member of a patient undergoing treatment at GB Hospital described the scene as chaotic and distressing. “There is a lot of trouble due to the lack of electricity. Patients are squirming because the fans are not working, and they are facing various problems,” they said.
The power outage, which lasted more than 30 minutes, highlighted the vulnerability of the hospital’s infrastructure in the face of natural calamities, raising concerns about emergency preparedness and patient safety.
