Agartala, 4th August 2025: In what appears to be a glaring case of mismanagement and indifference, a shocking incident has come to light from the Jangalia TSECL office in Bishalgarh. A customer, Amaresh Debnath, was left devastated after recharging his prepaid electricity meter with Rs 1500, only to receive electricity worth just seven units.
As per Debnath, the recharge was done like every month—he sent a friend to the power office for the process. However, when he checked the meter, he was shocked to see that the amount had fetched only seven minutes of electricity. Speaking to the media, a visibly distressed Debnath said, “If the government has increased the electricity bill to this extent, then they might as well shut it off entirely. Are the poor expected to die?”
Upon reaching the power office to seek answers, he was told that “Madam will look into it,” but no immediate resolution was provided. This lack of urgency has sparked fresh outrage over what many are calling an “anti-people” system operating under the guise of good governance.
Despite repeated complaints, the Power Corporation seems unmoved. Locals allege that this is not the first such incident. Consumers are now questioning the intent behind massive bills, unclear breakdowns, and unexplained deductions. “Ministers and officials keep telling the media that the government is committed to ensuring electricity for all. But where is that commitment on the ground?” asked another customer outside the office.
