Agartala, 11th July 2026: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee has strongly criticized the state government’s much-publicized Destination Tripura Business Conclave, branding it a futile exercise aimed at misleading the public ahead of the 2028 elections.
At a press conference held on Saturday, State Spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty, SC Department Chairman Niranjan Das, and Youth Congress State President Neel Kamal Saha addressed the media.
Chakraborty alleged that despite repeated investor visits and grand publicity campaigns during the BJP’s tenure, no tangible industrial development has taken place in the state. “This conclave is nothing more than performing the last rites for a ghost’s father,” he remarked, accusing the government of staging spectacles without delivering results.
He questioned the absence of promised projects such as a fertilizer plant and AIIMS, and demanded clarity on how many industries have actually been set up and how many jobs created. “The unemployed youth of Tripura are migrating to other states and abroad. Farmers, vegetable growers, and rubber cultivators have not received adequate compensation for flood losses,” he added.
The Congress spokesperson further criticized the mounting external debt and alleged rampant corruption across sectors, claiming the situation has surpassed all past records. He demanded that the government release a comprehensive report on the outcomes of previous business summits.
On the issue of census duties, Chakraborty reiterated that teachers should not be burdened with such responsibilities. Instead, unemployed individuals should be recruited on a contractual basis, which would provide them with much-needed opportunities.
Calling the conclave a political ploy to hoodwink the unemployed and secure electoral gains, Chakraborty urged for a united struggle against “fraudsters and looters.”
