Agartala, 23rd December 2024: Pradesh Congress chief spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty today accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of hiding the real facts about Tripura’s development. Speaking at a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan on Monday, Chakraborty claimed that Shah’s statements during the recently concluded NEC meeting were misleading.
“The Congress had expected that the NEC meeting, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, would play an effective role in resolving various problems. But no effective role was observed,” Chakraborty said. He criticized Shah’s assertion that Tripura is “floating in a sea of development” and has surpassed other developed states in the country. “Law and order is also in a good place, and good governance is going on in Tripura,” Shah had claimed, supporting the state ministers’ assertions.
Chakraborty accused Shah of hiding the real state of affairs, including the average annual income of the people, which Shah claimed to be one lakh 77 thousand taka. “Last August, during the terrible floods in the state, the Union Home Minister said that the income of the state’s farmers would increase 30 times in the next two to three years,” Chakraborty noted.
He also criticized Shah’s claims about drinking water availability. “There are frequent road blockades for drinking water in the state. People are blocking the Chief Minister’s fear. But the Union Home Minister claimed that drinking water has reached 87 percent of the people in the state,” Chakraborty said. He called the Jal Jeevan Mission a “completely failed project.”
Chakraborty highlighted data from the NEC portal, showing that in the last six years, NEC sanctioned 85.7 crore rupees for 13 projects, but only 21.38 crore rupees have been spent. “These projects were supposed to be implemented by March 31, 2025. But it has been observed that three projects have not yet started. This shows how effective the NEC is being in Tripura,” he said, sparking criticism.
He further alleged that the financial prosperity of certain individuals, including drug dealers, human traffickers, smugglers, land brokers, and a section of government and ruling party leaders, has increased in the past six years. Chakraborty also condemned the neglect of state media in the NEC session and their non-invitation.
Announcing upcoming programs, Chakraborty said that on December 24, the All India Congress Committee will send a memorandum to the President of the country through district magistrates’ offices to honor Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. On December 26, a program will be organized to celebrate the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi’s inauguration as the President of the Congress Party. The 140th Foundation Day of the National Congress on December 28 will feature flag hoisting, garlanding of portraits, martyrs’ pillars, cultural programs by Jawahar Bal Manch, discussion meetings, service work, and blood donation in all state offices.
Other leaders of the Pradesh Congress were also present at the press conference, supporting Chakraborty’s statements and plans for future actions.
