Agartala, September 17, 2023: The Pradesh Youth Congress on Sunday celebrated ‘Unemployment Day’ on the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a protest march in front of the Pradesh Congress Bhavan, where the state’s post office headquarters is situated. This event, in stark contrast to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s celebrations nationwide, emphasized the issue of unemployment in India.

The protest march featured slogans calling for “BJP Hatao Desh Baach”. In a symbolic gesture, an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was set ablaze in front of the Congress building as a demonstration of their discontent.

PYC President Rakhu Das spoke at the event and highlighted the frustration felt by people across the country, who are now commemorating Narendra Modi’s birthday as “Unemployment Day”. He explained that this observance was initiated by the Pradesh Youth Congress to draw attention to the unfulfilled promises made by the Narendra Modi-led government in 2014. The government had pledged to generate two crore jobs annually, but unemployment remains a pressing issue across the nation.

Das also mentioned the assurances made by the BGB government in Tripura regarding employment opportunities, which have not materialized, despite vacancies in various sectors. The youth movement against unemployment is growing in the state, but it has been met with attempts to suppress it through police intervention.

In light of these challenges, “Unemployment Day” was marked on Prime Minister Modi’s birthday to underscore the pressing issue of joblessness in the country. The procession, which began at Pradesh Congress Bhavan, concluded at the same location, symbolizing the ongoing struggle against unemployment in India.
