Pradyot appeals for peace after Village Committee poll results

Date:

Agartala, 4th  October 2026 :  Tipra Motha Party founder and royal scion of Tripura, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, on Sunday appealed to people to maintain peace and refrain from violence following the announcement of the Village Committee election results scheduled for October 5.

Pradyot said the election would inevitably produce winners and losers, regardless of which political party emerges victorious. However, he urged supporters of all parties to accept the verdict peacefully and avoid clashes or attacks against political opponents.

“Tomorrow, someone will win and someone will lose. It may be Tipra Motha, BJP, Congress, CPM, IPFT or any other party. But if the winner beats or attacks the loser, that victory will not belong to any political party. It will be a defeat for the Tiprasa people,” he said.

He stressed that violence between political supporters would ultimately mean members of the same indigenous community turning against one another.

“The person who gets beaten will be Tiprasa and the person who beats him will also be Tiprasa. If Tiprasa fights Tiprasa, we will be damaging the future of our children,” Pradyot said.

Clarifying that his appeal was not limited to Tipra Motha supporters, he urged workers and supporters of the BJP, CPM, Congress, IPFT and other political parties to exercise restraint after the results are declared.

Pradyot said his efforts concerning the Village Committee election issue, including approaching the Supreme Court, were not aimed merely at securing political gains for the Tipra Motha Party but at protecting the political rights of the indigenous people.

“I want the final victory to belong to our people, our community and our Tipra,” he said.

Expressing concern over the possibility of post-result violence, Pradyot said such incidents could damage the image of the Tiprasa community across the Northeast.

“If people start beating each other after or during the results, people will laugh at us,” he said, adding that several people had already contacted him expressing concern over the situation following the results.
