Agartala, 6th September 2026 : Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the CPI(M), alleging that the party had failed to adequately protect the rights and interests of tribal people in Tripura during its years in power.
Speaking during a Facebook Live session, Pradyot accused the CPI(M) of using the problems of tribal communities for political purposes and urged people not to place their trust in the party. He also appealed to people not to trust the Congress.
Pradyot said his vision was to build a peaceful and progressive Tripura where people from all communities could live together without conflict.
“I want a good Tripura where everyone can live together and there is no conflict, and where the next generation can move forward together. If we want such a Tripura, we must apologise to each other and then move forward,” he said
He described his long-standing fight for the rights of tribal people as the greatest achievement of his life, particularly his efforts to give a voice to young people and communities that, according to him, had remained marginalised.On the Tiprasa Accord, Pradyot welcomed Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha’s reported announcement that the accord would be implemented within a month. He dismissed allegations that Tipra Motha had compromised its interests for political gains.
“Some people are spreading rumours that we have been sold out. But if Tipra Motha contests an election alone, we may win hundreds of seats. But if after winning those seats we do not get the accord and our people get nothing, what will we do with those seats?” he asked.
Pradyot said he had placed the interests of the Tiprasa community above his own political ambitions and even the interests of his party.
“I have kept my personal interests aside and focused on my people and my community. The party may suffer, but if the community benefits, that is more important. For me, my people are bigger than my party,” he said.He further stated that Tipra Motha would withdraw from the political arrangement if the Tiprasa Accord was not implemented.“If the Tiprasa Accord is not implemented, we will leave. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured us, and the Chief Minister has also announced it. He is convinced, and it will be implemented within one month,” Pradyot said.Taking aim at the CPI(M), he alleged that the party had failed to secure sufficient constitutional and political rights for tribal people despite being in power for several years.
“Don’t trust the CPI(M). I also urge people not to trust Congress. When bills concerning the TTAADC were passed in Parliament, both CPI(M) MPs were absent. They want to do politics by keeping tribal people poor and using their problems for political purposes. The CPI(M) has not worked to secure adequate rights for tribal people,” he alleged.
Pradyot, however, acknowledged the role of successive governments in addressing tribal-related issues. Referring to the Bru and TNV accords, he said different governments had contributed to resolving longstanding issues affecting tribal communities.
“I agree that the Bru Accord was resolved during the tenure of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while the TNV Accord was signed during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure. We may not have won 100 per cent, but yes, we will win,” he said.
