Agartala, December 15, 2022: Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Thursday inaugurated the government paddy purchase centre at a Food Warehouse premises in Tepania under Udaipur sub-division.
The centre has been set up with the initiative of the departments of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Singha Roy said “Majority of the people of the state depend on agriculture for livelihood. The state government is working on a mission to double the income of farmers through the use of modern agricultural technology. The income of the farmers has increased more than before due to the availability of advanced agricultural machinery, fertilizers and irrigation system provided by the state government.”
He said that paddy will be procured from farmers at minimum subsidized price periodically from 49 places across the state. It started today which will continue till January 31 next year. In this program, 35 thousand metric tons of paddy will be purchased from farmers at the rate of minimum support price (MSP) Rs 20.40.
The Agriculture Minister said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the leadership of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, work is going on to improve the socio-economic status of farmers in the state.
“The state government is setting up rural markets so that the farmers of the state can easily market their produce”, he added.
Social worker Jawahar Saha spoke on the occasion. Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare department Sharadindu Das delivered the welcome speech. Tepania Panchayat Samiti Chairman Jharna Rani Das presided over the function.
