Pratima chairs Workshop on ‘Swachhta Udyami Yojana’, says Govt committed to welfare of Safai Karmcharis

Agartala Jan 11: Agartala Municipal Corporation in association with National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC) organized a workshop on ‘Swachhta Udyami Yojana’ (SUY) here on Wednesday at the AMC Conference Hall.

Chairing the workshop, MoS Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik said, “NSKFDC has been implementing Swachhta Udyami Yojana (SUY) with twin objective of cleanliness and providing sustainable livelihood to Safai Karamcharis and liberated Manual Scavengers”.

“Financial assistance is provided to the target group for procurement of sanitation related equipment’s/ vehicles under SUY through the Channelizing Agencies of NSKFDC. Further, NSKFDC is also providing financial assistance to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) for procurement of sanitation related equipment’s/vehicles under SUY”, she added.

Pratima Bhowmik further detailed the benefits under PM Daksh Portal, a national action plan for skilling of marginalized persons covering SCs, OBCs, EBCs, DNTs, Sanitation workers including waste pickers.

It is the first time that the scheme is going to be implemented in the state of Tripura, said AMC Commissioner Sailesh Kumar Yadav.

He added, “The SUY is for extending financial assistance for c=Construction, Operation and Maintenance of Pay and Use Community Toilets in PPP (Public Private Partnership) Mode and Procurement and Operation of Sanitation related Vehicles”.

Loan upto Rs 50 lakh will be provided under the scheme at a minimal interest of 6% and 5% in case of women entrepreneur.
