Agartala, January 23: Brave Jyotsna Akhtar, a school student from Hishyamukh assembly constituency in South Tripura district, has won the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Purashkar – 2024 for her courage and activism against child marriage. The award was conferred by President Draupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi on Monday evening.
Brave Jyotsna Akhtar, who is 15 years old, had stopped her own marriage last year and had also helped many other girls in her area to escape the same fate. She had raised awareness about the ill effects of child marriage and had encouraged the girls to continue their education and pursue their dreams. She had also reported the cases of child marriage to the authorities and had sought their intervention.
Her remarkable efforts had earned her the nomination for the national award, which recognizes the exceptional achievements and contributions of children in various fields. She was among the 32 awardees who received the award from the President. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha congratulated Brave Jyotsna Akhtar for her inspiring and exemplary achievement and wished her all the best for her future.
