Agartala, 4th April 2026: Frustration is boiling over in Ward No. 2 of Moynama Gram Panchayat as residents accuse local MLA Tafajjal Hossain of abandoning them after elections. The grand promises made during the campaign, better roads, clean drinking water, and improved infrastructure remain unfulfilled, leaving villagers to cope with worsening conditions.
The biggest grievance is the state of the main road. Locals say it has become nearly impassable, especially during the monsoon. Heavy rains turn the muddy stretch into a pond-like swamp, making daily movement hazardous. Transporting patients or expectant mothers to hospitals has become almost impossible, residents complain.
Alongside the road woes, the community has been suffering from a severe drinking water shortage for the past two months. The much-publicized “Har Ghar Jal” project has collapsed, forcing villagers to walk long distances to fetch pond water. An Anganwadi Kendra and a junior basic school in the area are also struggling with poor infrastructure.
Before the polls, MLA Tafajjal personally assured residents that road repairs and piped water supply would begin immediately after his victory. Now, locals say he has not visited the area even once since being elected. Repeated appeals to both the Panchayat and the MLA’s office have yielded no results.
Residents argue that the colorful promises of development shown during the campaign have vanished without a trace. Many say they voted for the BJP hoping to end decades of neglect under previous governments, but feel betrayed as the same cycle of deprivation continues.
