Agartala, 9th August 2026: Tension prevailed in the Beltali area following allegations of vandalism of a Hanuman idol and an attack on a Shani temple at Charipara Sachindralal, located at the outskirt of Agartala city.
Protesting the alleged incidents, a group of members of the Sanatan community, led by the Dukli block unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), blocked the road at Beltali and staged a demonstration.
The protesters alleged that a Hanuman idol had been damaged at Charpara Sachindralal and that the Shani temple in the area had also been attacked. They demanded that the damaged Hanuman idol be reinstalled at the earliest.The protesters also demanded the resignation of Biplab Majumder, the Pradhan of Charpara Sachindralal Panchayat, holding him responsible for the situation.
Following information about the road blockade, police rushed to the spot. Senior police officials, including the SDPO of Amtali and the Officer-in-Charge of AD Nagar Police Station, reached the area and attempted to bring the situation under control.
After discussions and intervention by the police, the protesters withdrew the road blockade.
Police have stepped up surveillance in the area to prevent any further tension or untoward incident. Authorities are also looking into the allegations and investigating the circumstances surrounding the reported vandalism and temple attack.
