Road in Suryamaninagar Turns Into Death Trap, Locals Demand Immediate Repairs

Date:

Agartala, 9th August 2026:  A road near Hatileta Rail Bridge under Choumuhani Bazar Gram Panchayat in Suryamaninagar Assembly constituency has been lying in a deplorable condition for a long time due to lack of proper maintenance, causing severe inconvenience to local residents.

Several stretches of the road have developed large potholes, which have become even more dangerous during the ongoing monsoon as rainwater accumulates in them. Local residents said the poor condition of the road has made daily commuting difficult for pedestrians as well as motorists.

According to residents, the issue has persisted for a considerable period despite repeated complaints to local panchayat representatives. However, they alleged that no effective measures have been taken so far to provide a permanent solution.

The situation has worsened during the rainy season, with water-filled potholes making it difficult for vehicles to navigate the road. Locals also expressed concern over the risk of accidents, as the actual depth of the potholes cannot be easily determined when they are submerged in water.

On Sunday afternoon, several residents gathered in the area and highlighted the poor condition of the road before the media. They alleged that public representatives make several development promises ahead of elections, but the problems faced by ordinary people often receive little attention after the elections.

Residents said the dilapidated road has been affecting their daily commute and creating difficulties in accessing essential and emergency services. They urged the concerned panchayat authorities and administration to take immediate steps to repair the road and ensure safe movement.

Locals have now appealed to the authorities to address the long-standing problem without further delay. It remains to be seen when the concerned panchayat and administration will take effective action to resolve the issue.
