Agartala, 8th April 2025: During the auspicious period of Chaitra Sankranti, an irate group of women from the Ramabhadra area staged a road blockade from Jatnabhari to Tirthamukh on the main road at 9 AM protesting against four months of unpaid wages under the MGNREGA scheme. Frustration had been brewing among the residents of Ramabhadra due to the prolonged non-payment.
Simultaneously, residents of Dikchan Para, another part of Ramabhadra joined the protest to demand repairs for the neglected and deteriorated roads, an issue persisting for years. The blockade caused significant disruption, leaving vehicles stranded on both sides affecting school officials, office staff, and numerous travelers.
Although officials from Ramabhadra Panchayat and the Karbook Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s (SDM) office arrived at the scene to negotiate with the protesters, their efforts failed to yield results. The protesters stood firm, demanding that the Karbook Block Development Officer (BDO) personally visit the site and provide written assurance of resolving the issues.
The road blockade started at 9 AM continued till 2 PM creating widespread inconvenience for travelers. Eventually, with no resolution from the officials, Karbook BDO Subrata Pal himself arrived at the site. He assured the protesters that the pending wages would be disbursed within three days. Upon receiving this assurance in writing, the women of Ramabhadra lifted the six-hour-long blockade.
