Protesters Block Roads in Veluarcher Over Poll Violence, Demand Arrests

Date:

Agartala, 13th April 2026:    Public anger escalated in the Veluarcher area on Monday as residents enforced a road blockade to protest a bomb attack that took place during the TTAADC election a day earlier.

The incident occurred near Bardhefa Jaljala Senior Basic School, where miscreants allegedly threw bombs outside a polling booth while voting was in progress on Sunday. At least two individuals were injured in the explosion, with one reportedly in critical condition.

Accusing the authorities of failing to act promptly, locals gathered in large numbers and blocked key roads from the morning, bringing traffic to a standstill and causing major disruption for commuters.

Demonstrators insisted that those responsible for the attack be arrested without delay and subjected to strict legal action. Many also criticized the police, claiming their response to the incident had been insufficient.

Senior officials from the police and administration reached the site after being alerted and held discussions with the protesters in an attempt to defuse the situation. Security in the area has been tightened, with additional forces deployed to maintain order.

Officials stated that efforts are ongoing to restore normalcy, while an investigation into the attack has been initiated.
