Agartala, 13th April 2026: The Tripura State Election Commission has ordered a re-poll at the 39-Hirapur S.B. School polling station in the 17-Pekuarjala–Janmejayanagar (ST) constituency of Sepahijala district under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), after reports of serious irregularities during voting.
The elections for 28 seats of the TTAADC were held on April 12 and saw a voter turnout of 83%. According to an official statement, the Commission took serious note of incidents reported at the polling station. Based on video footage and a report from the appointed observer, it was initially found that some individuals attempted to interfere with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), thereby compromising the integrity of the election process.
Terming the issue as grave, the Commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency, fairness, and credibility in elections. Using its constitutional powers, the State Election Commissioner declared the polling at the affected station invalid.
A fresh poll has been scheduled for April 16, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Commission assured that strict security arrangements will be put in place to ensure the re-poll is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, preventing any repeat of such incidents.
The Commission also appealed to all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and voters, to cooperate in maintaining the integrity and dignity of the democratic process.
