Public Distribution System must reach all sections: Sushanta Chowdhury

Agartala, 8th May 2026:  Food, Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday emphasized the government’s commitment to making the Public Distribution System more robust and effective, ensuring its benefits reach every section of society.

Speaking at a seminar titled “Safe Products, Confident Consumers” held at Pragna Bhavan, the Minister highlighted that the department is actively working to strengthen consumer confidence and improve supply mechanisms. The event saw participation from fair price shop operators, ration dealers, and representatives of trade associations from across the state.

Later, Chowdhury attended a review meeting with dealers and trade bodies to assess the effectiveness of the distribution system and the supply of essential commodities. He noted that the session provided an opportunity to understand the challenges faced by stakeholders and to discuss solutions.

“We are determined to ensure that consumers do not face any difficulties in accessing essential commodities. I have directed senior officials to remain vigilant and take necessary steps so that the Public Distribution System functions smoothly and transparently,” Chowdhury stated.

The Minister further appealed for the collective cooperation of all stakeholders to strengthen the system in the larger interest of the people of Tripura.
