Agartala, 28th December 2024:    A pump operator from Telkajla in Melaghar named Shyamal Das has accused two officials affiliated with the ruling party of forcibly pressuring him to resign from his job. Das has approached the media, seeking the intervention of Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha.

According to Das, Pintu Ghosh and Tufan Sarkar, members of the ruling party have been physically and mentally torturing him in Ward No. 1 of Telkajla Gram Panchayat. Das, who has been serving as a pump operator since 2000, faced additional challenges when the pump office in Telkajla was submerged in Gomati floodwaters a few days ago.

In response to the flooding, Das submitted written applications to several offices, including the block office, requesting the construction of new facilities. However, he alleges that Ghosh and Sarkar have been pressuring him to resign and demanding Rs 50,000 from the pump. “They even forced me to sign a resignation letter,” Das claimed.

Desperate for assistance, Das and his family have made a public appeal for help from Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. “We are helpless and need immediate intervention from the Chief Minister,” Das said, addressing the media on Saturday.

The incident has raised concerns about the treatment of public service workers and the alleged misuse of power by local leaders. The community awaits a response from the Chief Minister’s office to address the grievances and ensure justice for Shyamal Das.
