Agartala, 28th December 2024: Residents of Melaghar Lal Mia Chowmuhani caught a thief attempting to steal rubber seats on Saturday. The locals without informing the police decided to punish the thief themselves before releasing him.
The incident took place in the area adjacent to Melaghar Lal Mia Chowmuhani. The thief has been identified as Jasim Uddin from Kakraban was booked by residents while trying to steal rubber sheets from the house of Alek Mia. When questioned about his motives, Jasim Uddin gave inconsistent excuses and admitted to being addicted to drugs.
Upon hearing his confession, the locals concluded that he was attempting to steal the rubber seats to fund his drug habit. In a unique form of punishment, the residents shaved the thief’s head, played a song, and made him dance before letting him go.
