Agartala, 22nd November 2024: During the Tribal Day celebration at Pragya Bhavan here on Friday, Purbasha Chairman and MLA Kishor Barman emphasized the significant strides being made to develop traditional industries in Tripura. Reflecting on the past, Barman noted that Purbasha was underdeveloped and plagued by anti-social elements during the previous government’s tenure. However, he highlighted the current government’s proactive measures to transform the region.
“Under the previous administration, Purbasha had become a den of anti-social elements. But now, we are taking various steps to develop traditional industries and revive our cultural heritage,” Barman stated. He outlined the government’s efforts to promote bamboo products, a hallmark of Tripura’s traditional craftsmanship.
“We are working to open stalls of bamboo products in various tourist centers across the state and even in foreign states. Initiatives have been taken to start shops selling products made by Purbasha artists at railway stations and airports in the state. This will not only boost our local economy but also showcase our rich cultural heritage to a broader audience,” Barman told reporters.
The Chairman expressed optimism about re-establishing the lost tradition of the bamboo industry, which once brought national and international recognition to Tripura. “Through these initiatives, we hope to revive the tradition that was previously known across the country and the world. Our goal is to bring back the glory of Purbasha and ensure sustainable development for our artisans,” he added.
The Tribal Day celebration, organized by the Tribal Welfare Department, saw the participation of various dignitaries and community members. The event underscored the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting traditional industries, ensuring that the cultural legacy of Tripura continues to thrive.
