PYC protest at Bishalgarh: Neel Kamal hits back at BJP chief Abhishek Debroy

Date:

Agartala, 9th September 2026 :  A six-hour mass sit-in organised by the Belonia District Youth Congress witnessed a sharp political exchange on Wednesday, with Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha launching a strong counterattack against Tripura BJP president and MLA Abhishek Debroy over his remarks on Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman.

Addressing the protesters, Saha said the BJP had “nothing to learn” from the Congress party and strongly defended Roy Barman, whom he described as a genuine leader who regularly assists people facing difficulties.

Saha’s remarks came in response to an earlier audio statement by Debroy in which the BJP leader had criticised Roy Barman, questioning what could be learned from him and accusing the Congress MLA of creating controversies in the Assembly to gain media attention. Debroy had also described the Congress as a “lost cause” while claiming that the BJP stands for democracy and the interests of ordinary people.

Countering the allegations, Saha claimed that Roy Barman receives numerous calls every day from people seeking assistance with issues ranging from hospital beds to blood availability. He further alleged that even BJP workers approach the Congress MLA for help when faced with emergencies.

“You were made a leader today after working as a clerk in another state, and the person who gave you political space was Sudip Roy Barman,” Saha said, directly addressing Debroy.

Saha also warned Debroy against making disrespectful comments about Roy Barman, asserting that the Congress MLA has earned recognition as a people’s leader.

The Youth Congress protest was organised to press for three demands, including concerns related to government examinations and recruitment processes. Saha accused the state government of functioning in an “autocratic” manner and said the agitation represented people who support the Congress but are suffering under the present administration.

The protest concluded with the Youth Congress reiterating its demands and vowing to continue its campaign on issues concerning employment, recruitment and governance.
