Agartala, 9th September 2026 : South Tripura Police has intensified its election preparedness ahead of the September 28 Village Committee polls under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with approximately 1,200 security personnel set to be deployed across the district.
A detailed review of the district’s security situation was conducted on Wednesday during a crime conference held at the SP Office Conference Hall in Belonia. The meeting was chaired by South Tripura SP Mourya Krishna C, IPS, in the presence of Additional SP Suman Majumder and other senior police officials.
The meeting assessed recent crime trends, the overall law-and-order situation and the security requirements for the forthcoming elections. Police officials said personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces, Tripura State Rifles and district police would be deployed as part of the election security mechanism.
Polling stations have been assessed based on their vulnerability and divided into hyper-critical, sensitive and normal categories. Security arrangements will be made accordingly, while strong rooms at the block level will receive armed protection and continuous surveillance.
The elections in South Tripura will cover 70 Village Committees, 306 constituencies and 538 seats, with voting scheduled at 177 polling stations.
Police have also planned a series of preventive measures in the run-up to polling. These include area domination, intensified mobile patrolling, vehicle checking and surveillance at nakas, particularly along inter-district and border routes.
Special attention will be given to preventing the illegal movement of arms, narcotics, liquor and unaccounted cash. Police will also initiate preventive action against persons suspected of having the potential to disturb public peace and will strictly enforce the Model Code of Conduct.
The SP instructed SDPOs and Officers-in-Charge to remain alert, take prompt action against criminal elements and maintain close coordination with election officials and the civil administration.
