Rain turns Dhanlekha road into nightmare

Date:

Agartala, 2nd June 2026:   The crumbling road in Dhanlekha and nearby areas under Ampi Nagar block, Gomati Tripura, has become a death trap for the indigenous Kaipeng community. Villagers report that the 2.5 km stretch from Rabiroy Para to Longtheng Para is in a deplorable state, causing immense hardship in daily life.

For decades, residents have endured severe communication barriers due to the road’s deterioration. The rainy season worsens the situation, with collapsed sides, countless potholes, and mud heaps making it nearly impossible for vehicles to reach the village. Drivers fear accidents, and emergency cases—such as medical emergencies or nighttime travel—become perilous.

Students and senior citizens are the worst affected. In summer, the road poses dangers to pedestrians, while in monsoon, it becomes impassable. One elder lamented, “Our 2.5 km village road has turned into a death trap. Rain has collapsed its sides, leaving uncountable potholes and mud heaps that make it critical for both pedestrians and vehicles.”

Despite repeated appeals to block authorities, no maintenance work has been undertaken. Villagers say every rainy season brings renewed suffering, with patients and pregnant women unable to reach hospitals on time. The Kaipeng inhabitants of Dhanlekha VC demand urgent intervention, urging authorities to visit the site and take immediate action to provide relief.
