Agartala, 2nd November 2024:    For an extended period, the residents of Ramnagar in Agartala have been grappling with severe water issues. Despite the presence of water pipelines, the area has been deprived of a regular water supply, forcing residents to rely on iron-rich deep tubewells for their water needs.

The residents have repeatedly reported their grievances to the relevant department, seeking a regular supply of drinking water. However, their pleas have gone unanswered.

“We have been suffering from water problems since Durga Puja. There are pipelines in place, but no water is coming through. We don’t even get water from the roadside pipes. Despite numerous complaints to the drinking water and health department, the staff has not identified the cause of this disruption. They claim that there is no issue with the pipeline, yet we continue to face this shortage,” a woman from the Ramnagar area shared.

Frustration is mounting among the residents, who are critical of local leaders for failing to address the issue. “We need a permanent solution to this problem,” urged another resident, pointing out that while the authorities have arranged for water tankers from Purnigam to deliver drinking water, it is merely a temporary fix.

In response to the complaints, officials from the Drinking Water and Health Department have inspected the pipelines in the Ramnagar area. “We have checked all the pipelines and found no issues. However, we suspect that water theft, possibly through the use of motors in various houses, may be causing the disruption in supply,” an official stated.

The community remains hopeful for a swift and permanent resolution to their water woes, as the authorities continue their investigation into the root cause of the problem.
