Rampant Illegal Pathologies Raise Concerns in City as Government Oversight Lags

Agartala, 26th August 2023 : In a move aimed at addressing the long-standing issue of unregistered and illegally operating pathologies, the All Tripura Pathological and Radiological Clinics Association conducted surprise raids across Agartala city on Saturday morning.

The initiative revealed a disconcerting prevalence of irregularities within the city’s medical diagnostics facilities, with a significant number lacking proper registration.

General Secretary of the association, Abhijit Biswas, spoke out about the ongoing concerns that have been highlighted by media reports. These concerns prompted the association to launch the campaign in an attempt to curb the illegal operations that have persisted despite numerous complaints. During the raids, multiple pathologies were identified as functioning without the required registration, thereby operating in violation of the established regulations.

“We have observed an alarming number of pathologies conducting their business without the necessary registration, thereby engaging in illegal activities,” stated Abhijit Biswas. He further emphasized that these establishments have been given a strict directive to complete their registration within the current month. Failure to comply will result in the matter being escalated to the Chief Medical Officer’s office, which will then be tasked with taking appropriate action against the violators.

However, uncertainties loom regarding the extent and nature of the punitive actions that will be imposed. Biswas acknowledged that while the government and health department are claimed to be vigilant, the sheer proliferation of these unregistered pathologies raises questions about the effectiveness of the oversight. Many within the community are questioning why the authorities allowed these illegal establishments to flourish unchecked for an extended period, despite repeated complaints from concerned citizens.
