Agartala, 19th June 2026: Tripura MLA Ranjit Debbarma has urged the Tripura Human Rights Commission to intervene after a TIPRA Motha women leader was allegedly assaulted by security personnel during polling in Sabroom. In a formal complaint, Debbarma demanded “early drastic action” against officers accused of attacking Miss Supriya Choudhury on April 12.
According to Debbarma’s letter, Choudhury and other women leaders were present at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office to monitor the transfer of EVMs. They reportedly raised objections to suspected irregularities, prompting security forces to launch a lathi charge. Debbarma alleged that one officer kicked Choudhury from behind, leaving her injured and humiliated in public.
Despite Choudhury filing a written complaint naming two personnel, the Sabroom Police Station only recorded a General Diary entry and failed to register a case even after weeks. CCTV footage of the incident is said to be in official custody. Debbarma accused the police of shielding those involved and acting with political bias.
He urged the Commission to reject the DGP’s May 25 report as “motivated” and ensure justice for the indigenous leader. The Commission has yet to issue a response, raising wider concerns about accountability during elections in Tripura.
