Drug-free week observed in Unakoti; Awareness campaigns launched across district: DM

Agartala, 19th June 2026:   As part of the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign), a week-long observance titled ‘Drug-Free Week’ is being conducted across Tripura from June 17 to June 26 with the objective of promoting a drug-free society. In this connection, Unakoti District Magistrate Megha Jain addressed a press conference at the Kailashahar Circuit House on Friday.

Speaking to the media, the District Magistrate said a series of awareness programmes have been organized throughout the district to educate people, particularly the younger generation, about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Activities include debate competitions, poster and slogan contests, awareness rallies, street plays, and other outreach programmes in schools and public places.

She informed that the district-level concluding programme will be held on June 24, during which winners of various competitions and participants will be felicitated and awarded. The state-level observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking will take place in Agartala on June 26.

Urging citizens, especially youths, to join the campaign, Megha Jain emphasized that collective participation is essential for building a healthy, aware, and drug-free society.

Additional District Magistrate Sagar Shobhan Debnath, District Inspector of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department Vidyasagar Debbarma, and other officials were also present at the press conference.
