Agartala, 5th July 2025: Tipra Motha Party MLA Ranjit Debbarma today issued a stern warning that the party may withdraw support from the ruling BJP government in Tripura if key demands—particularly the implementation of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directives against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and the introduction of the 125th Constitutional Amendment—are not met.
Addressing a press conference in Agartala, Debbarma announced a non-political rally scheduled for July 7, demanding enforcement of the MHA notification regarding the identification and detention of illegal immigrants.
“The Tripura government has taken no concrete steps in this matter. That’s why we’re organizing an apolitical rally,” Debbarma said. He added that Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya would join the rally in his personal capacity, not as a political leader. The rally will begin at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan and conclude at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala.
Debbarma criticized the state government’s inaction, pointing out that other states such as Gujarat, Delhi, Assam, and Tamil Nadu have already initiated measures following the MHA directive. “In Tripura, no steps have been taken, despite repeated communications,” he alleged.
He claimed that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants are residing in several areas of Agartala without any official scrutiny. “We approached the District Magistrates of Gomati and Sepahijala, but no action has followed,” he added.
Debbarma also said he had spoken with Pradyot Kishore Manikya earlier in the day. “He said the party is prepared to withdraw support. Even our MP, Kriti Devi Singh, is nearly ready to leave the BJP,” he revealed.
He further added that a final decision on pulling out of the government will be taken during a party meeting on July 30. “There’s no point in staying with the government if our core demands—such as the 125th Amendment and Village Council elections—are being ignored.”
Debbarma concluded by stating that all 13 Tipra Motha MLAs are united and will soon seek dialogue with the Centre.
