Agartala, January 16, 2023: Education Minister Ratanlal Nath officially inaugurated the synthetic turf football field on Monday in a ceremony at North Devendranagar High School ground in Tulabagan under Mohanpur subdivision. Youth Affairs and Sports minister Sushanta Chowdhury was present as the chief guest on the occasion. Rs 5 crore has been spent on the construction of the synthetic turf football field.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Education Minister Ratanlal Nath said that the local people should take responsibility for the maintenance of this field. It has been decided to make such fields in populated areas in the future. The state government has given special importance to the development of sports to keep children physically and mentally healthy.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, the chief guest of the program, said that a project worth Rs 70 crore is being implemented in stages for the development of sports infrastructure in the state. A synthetic turf field for playing hockey will be constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore at Dasarath Deb Stadium and the work has already begun.
The regional sports training center in Panisagar, work is underway to make synthetic turf for athletics at a cost of about Rs 7 crore. The construction of the synthetic turf football field in Khowai is also nearing completion, he added.
He expressed hope that the development of sports infrastructure will develop new sports talents.
Mohanpur Panchayat Samiti Chairman Reena Debbarma, Mohanpur Municipal Council Chairperson Anita Debnath, Lefunga BAS Chairman Ranbir Debbarma among others were present on the occasion.
On this occasion sports materials were distributed to 50 clubs by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports. Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Department Subikash Debbarma gave a welcome speech on the occasion.
