Reang villagers at Khondol Para suffer amidst road crisis

Date:

Agartala, 21st  May 2026:  Indigenous Reang residents of Khondol Para under Bagafa block in Shantir Bazar, South Tripura, are facing severe hardships due to the dilapidated condition of their village road. The 4 km stretch from Takma market to Khondol Para is vital for daily movement, but the last 1 km has deteriorated into what locals describe as a “death trap.”

The road is riddled with potholes, collapsed sides, and mud heaps that make vehicular access impossible during rains. Villagers say emergency cases — such as transporting patients or pregnant women to hospitals — become nearly impossible, while students suffer most during summer as the road turns muddy and unsafe.

“Our village road has never been brick-soiled. It is full of holes and collapses every rainy season. We have appealed to the block authority many times, but no initiative has been taken,” lamented a senior resident.

Residents allege that despite repeated pleas over decades, authorities have failed to provide permanent relief. They demand immediate inspection and repair to ensure safe passage for the poor Reang inhabitants of Khondol Para.
