Agartala, 22nd April 2025: For years, residents of Kanchanmala under Golaghati assembly constituency have endured an unbearable stench and an uncontrollable fly infestation, allegedly caused by the broiler chicken farm Oval Fresh Chamak. Despite repeated complaints, they claim that authorities have failed to address their grievances.
Locals say the farm, which was set up several years ago, has become a major health hazard. “We can’t even host family functions at home anymore. Guests refuse to visit because of the flies and the overpowering stench,” said a resident.
Frustration among the affected households has escalated. Many complain that the farm’s waste disposal methods are spreading disease. “This isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a serious health risk. Flies carry germs everywhere, making our homes unsafe,” another resident added.
Although administrative officials have visited the site multiple times, locals allege that investigations have been superficial. “Officials come, talk to the farm owners, and leave. They never listen to us, the ones suffering daily,” one resident remarked.
Even with a Pollution Control Board in place, residents argue that no concrete action has been taken. The prevailing sentiment is that their struggles will continue as long as the farm remains operational.
This morning, a group of affected residents approached the media, vowing to escalate the matter. “We have tolerated this for too long. We will now submit a formal complaint to the West District Magistrate and the Union Environment Pollution Minister,” one community leader stated.
Their demand is clear—they want authorities to intervene and shut down the farm to restore normalcy to their lives.
