Agartala, 22nd April 2025: The Tripura State Rifles (TSR) 5th Battalion celebrated its 28th Raising Day today with a dignified ceremony at its headquarters in Duluma, Amarpur subdivision. The event is attended by senior officials and dignitaries highlighted the battalion’s contributions to security and community welfare over nearly three decades.
The ceremony was graced by Additional Director General of Tripura Police G S Rao as the chief guest, alongside IGP of Tripura State Rifles Kerry Marak, AIDGP L Darlong, and Commandant of the Fifth Force Jyortiraditya Das Chowdhury.
In his address, G S Rao reflected on the history of the force, stating, “TSR 5th Battalion was established in 1997 during a challenging period to counter extremist threats in the state. Since then, our officers and soldiers have played a crucial role in securing the subdivisions of Amarpur, Karbook, and Gandacherra.”
He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by the battalion, highlighting, “Five soldiers of this force have laid down their lives in the fight against extremism. Their service and sacrifice will always be remembered.” Families of the martyred soldiers were honored during the event, paying tribute to their bravery.
The occasion also saw a blood donation camp, where 63 TSR personnel voluntarily donated blood, reaffirming their commitment to community welfare. Additionally, students from TSR families who scored above 80 percent in their secondary and higher secondary examinations were felicitated for their academic excellence.
Beyond security contributions, TSR personnel have made remarkable strides in sports, with several soldiers being recognized for their achievements. Commending their efforts, officials awarded outstanding performers in various sporting disciplines.
As part of the foundation day celebrations, dignitaries visited stalls displayed by different companies of the force, showcasing their initiatives. A tree plantation drive was also undertaken at Birota Bandhutto Vidyalaya, where guests planted saplings of various species to promote environmental sustainability.
With a legacy of resilience and service, the 5th Battalion continues to strengthen its role in safeguarding communities and fostering goodwill across Tripura.
