Agartala, 9th September 2025:   For over 15 years, residents of Ward No. 4 in Jambura Gram Panchayat under Khowai subdivision have endured the deteriorating condition of a 400-meter stretch of road under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department (PWD). Despite repeated appeals, no repair work has been undertaken, sparking widespread frustration among locals.

The neglected road, which connects Khowai Jambura Higher Secondary School to the DWS office near Khowai Office Tilla, has become a daily hazard for commuters. Locals report frequent accidents, especially during nighttime, and say that auto-rickshaw drivers now avoid the route altogether due to its unsafe condition.

Residents claim that while the PWD has carried out repairs in other parts of Khowai subdivision in recent months, their longstanding demands for this particular stretch have been consistently ignored. “We’ve approached the department multiple times, but nothing has changed,” said one resident. “It’s as if our voices don’t matter.”

With Durga Puja approaching, locals have turned to the media in hopes that public exposure will prompt the authorities to act. “We’re not asking for luxury—just a safe road. If the department can fix roads elsewhere, why not here?” said another resident.
