Agartala, 24th December 2025:   For more than a year, residents of Jirtali and Uttar Sonaichhari, located about five kilometers from Belonia town, have been enduring severe hardship due to the absence of a vital suspension bridge over the Muhuri River.

The bridge had long served as the primary means of daily travel for students, farmers, laborers, and other locals. However, in 2024, devastating floods swept away the structure under the force of the river’s strong currents. Since then, despite repeated appeals to the administration, no visible steps have been taken to rebuild the bridge, residents allege.

Without the bridge, school and college students, along with farmers and workers, face the greatest difficulties. Many are forced to cross the river on foot, often carrying agricultural produce and risking their lives in the process. The situation becomes even more dangerous during the monsoon season when the river swells.

Local residents have expressed frustration, stating that multiple requests to authorities have yielded no permanent solution. They are now demanding urgent reconstruction of the suspension bridge to restore safe and reliable connectivity.
