Agartala, September 09: The residents of Ward No. 1 in the Jubarajnagar assembly constituency staged a road blockade on Monday morning protesting against persistent low voltage and frequent power outages in their area. The protest took place near Jubarajnagar School in Ward No. 57 of the Jubarajnagar assembly constituency, part of the Dharmanagar sub-division.
According to local residents, the area has been experiencing low voltage and prolonged power cuts every evening after 7 PM. Despite multiple complaints to the power department and local leadership, no action has been taken to resolve the issue. Frustrated by the lack of response, the residents resorted to blocking the road to draw attention to their plight.
One of the protestors stated, “We have been facing this problem for a long time. Our complaints have been ignored by the department and the local leadership. We will continue our blockade until a permanent solution is found.”
The road blockade caused significant traffic disruption, bringing vehicles on both sides of the road to a standstill. Upon receiving information about the protest, Dharmanagar police arrived at the scene. With their intervention, the protestors eventually lifted the blockade. However, they warned that if a permanent solution is not provided soon, they would organize a larger movement in the coming days.
The residents’ demands for a reliable power supply highlight ongoing issues with infrastructure and public services in the region. The local authorities have yet to respond to the protestors’ concerns.
