Residents protest alleged commission trade, block roads at West Khupilong

Agartala, 28th November 2025:  Anger over alleged commission-based dealings by MLA Rampada Jamatia boiled over today as residents of West Khupilong took to the streets in protest. From 10 am, locals blocked the Udaipur–Khupilong–Atharabhola road, burning tyres and staging demonstrations. The blockade led to heavy traffic congestion on both sides of the route.

Residents accused the MLA of neglecting development in the area for years, despite repeated appeals for drainage construction and road repairs. Frustrated by the lack of response, they eventually approached the District Magistrate, who inspected the locality and ordered drainage work to begin.

Locals informed that the project was to be carried out under the supervision of an engineer. However, when the engineer arrived for inspection, he was allegedly obstructed by a group led by Upa-Pradhan Jaharlal Nandi. The incident triggered widespread outrage among residents.

Protesters claimed the work had been deliberately handed over to “Negu Trade,” a move they said was unacceptable. Expressing anger against both Jaharlal Nandi and MLA Rampada Jamatia, they launched the road blockade.

Demonstrators declared they would not withdraw until the District Magistrate personally intervened and took steps to resolve the issue.
