Agartala, 8th October 2025 :   Frustrated by years of inaction, residents of Ghilatali and Teliamura staged a road blockade today demanding immediate repairs to a severely damaged stretch of road. Despite repeated appeals to local authorities, no substantial steps have been taken prompting villagers to take their protest to the streets.

Protesters cited the road’s deteriorating condition, which becomes nearly impassable during rains due to mud and dust, causing daily hardship for pedestrians. “We’ve been pleading with the administration since 2023, but nothing has changed,” said one of the demonstrators.

The situation was further complicated when Subir Haldar, son of local resident Rajani Haldar, refused to release land required for the road’s reconstruction. He reportedly suggested the administration reroute the road over a nearby stream. Attempts at mediation have failed, and the issue remains unresolved.

The Block Development Officer today visited the site but expressed reluctance to proceed with repairs. The Panchayat was informed, yet no action was taken, intensifying public frustration.

Police arrived at the scene following reports of the blockade. After assurances from the administration that road repairs would be prioritized, villagers agreed to lift the protest. However, they warned that if promises are not fulfilled, they will resume their agitation.

All eyes are now on the administration to see how swiftly it responds to the long-standing demand for road restoration.
