Retired ADC employees demand pension relief amid ongoing struggles

Agartala, 8th October 2025 :   A total of 396 retired employees who dedicated their lives to the development of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) are now facing pension denial, forcing many to knock on the doors of ministers and officials in search of justice. Despite decades of service some up to 60 years, 143 of these retirees remain deprived of their rightful pension, even after 253 others secured theirs through legal intervention.

The TTAADC Pensioners’ Association held a press conference at the Agartala Press Club today, highlighting the plight of the affected pensioners and criticizing the Tipra Engine government for its alleged failure to uphold promises. The association demanded immediate support for the remaining 143 retirees until their pensions are disbursed.

According to the association, between November 2023 and August 2025, 396 employees retired from ADC service. As per regulations, pension dues must be cleared within 45 days of retirement. However, the ADC administration has reportedly failed to comply with this rule, leaving many in financial distress.

Initially, the pensioners approached the Chief Minister, who allegedly stated that the government lacked sufficient funds to release their pensions. Despite appeals emphasizing their lifelong contribution to ADC development, the retirees were advised to seek legal recourse.

Disheartened by the response, the pensioners then approached TTAADC officials, only to be told that if the Chief Minister couldn’t help, they too were powerless. On July 4, they turned to Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, who assured them he would speak with the Chief Minister and Home Minister to resolve the issue within a month. However, even after the promised period elapsed, no progress was seen, prompting the pensioners to take legal action.

While 253 pensions were eventually processed, 143 remain pending. Additionally, among 55 pensioners from the Die-in-harness division, only 35 have received their dues.

The association condemned the growing disparity, pointing out the lavish lifestyles of ADC leaders—marked by luxury vehicles and expensive attire—while those who built the institution from the ground up are left without basic healthcare access in their twilight years.

The TTAADC Pensioners’ Association has called for urgent government intervention to ensure justice for the remaining retirees and uphold the dignity of those who served the state selflessly.
