Agartala, 23rd June 2026: Following a murder incident at Kathaltali under Amtali Police Station in West Tripura district, the District Magistrate and Collector, West Tripura, Dr. Vishal Kumar, IAS, has imposed prohibitory restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, in the jurisdiction of Amtali Police Station.
According to the order issued on Tuesday, the decision was taken considering heightened public tension and the possibility of retaliatory violence, unlawful assembly, and disturbance of public peace and tranquillity.
The prohibitory order will remain effective from 6:00 PM on June 23, 2026, for a period of 48 hours, until 5:00 PM on June 25, 2026.
Under the order, the assembly of five or more persons, with or without arms, has been prohibited across the Amtali Police Station area. The administration stated that the restriction was necessary to prevent any untoward incident and maintain law and order.
However, the order will not apply to the movement of military, paramilitary forces, and police personnel engaged in maintaining law and order. It will also not restrict government officials performing essential emergency duties or patients requiring immediate medical treatment.
The order has been issued ex-parte due to the urgent nature of the situation. Any violation of the prohibitory order will invite legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The District Magistrate directed enforcement of the restrictions with immediate effect to ensure peace and prevent further escalation of tension in the area.
