Residents protest transfer of Homeopathic doctor, demand his retention at Machli PHC

Date:

Agartala, 3rd September 2026 :   Local residents have launched a protest against the proposed transfer of Dr. Jagat Bilas Chakma, a homeopathic physician posted at Machli Primary Health Centre (PHC), demanding that the transfer order be revoked and that he be allowed to continue serving at the health centre.

Residents said Dr. Chakma has been providing healthcare services in the area for a long time and has earned the trust of people in Machli and the adjoining Karamchhara region. They claimed that a large section of the local population relies on homeopathic treatment and that the doctor’s continued presence is particularly important for the community.

“We have gathered here because we do not want Dr. Jagat Bilas Chakma to leave this hospital. We will not allow his transfer. He has served here for a long time and provided invaluable assistance to the people,” protesters said.

The residents appealed to the District Magistrate (DM) and senior authorities to reconsider the transfer order and make arrangements for Dr. Chakma to remain posted at Machli PHC for the rest of his government service.

Protesters warned that if the doctor is transferred, they would intensify their agitation and launch a large-scale movement. They maintained that they are determined to retain Dr. Chakma at the hospital and would continue pressing the authorities until their demand is addressed.

The protest has highlighted local concerns over the availability of trusted healthcare services in remote areas, with residents urging the authorities to take their demand into consideration.
