Agartala, 26th March 2026: Tension gripped Dharmanagar’s Mangalkhali area after a violent attack on two brothers near the local mosque left one dead and another critically injured. On March 21, miscreants allegedly assaulted Khaled Ahmed and his brother Junaid, leading to Khaled’s death while Junaid continues to battle for his life.
Locals have accused four men—Moinuddin, Sabuddin, Haidar Ali, and Jubel Ahmed—of carrying out the attack. Since the incident, the accused have reportedly remained absconding, with residents alleging that police are deliberately avoiding their arrest. Meanwhile, the accused are said to have threatened locals, further escalating tensions.
Anger boiled over on Thursday as residents blocked roads by setting fire and later torched the houses of three accused. Firefighters rushed to the spot and managed to control the blaze after prolonged efforts, but the houses were reduced to ashes.
Police officials, including the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and the Additional Superintendent of Police, arrived at the protest site and assured residents that arrests would be made soon. Following this assurance, the blockade was lifted. A large police force has since been deployed in the area to prevent further unrest.
The situation remains tense, with locals watching closely to see whether the accused will be apprehended promptly.
