Retired Home Guards Face Financial Hardship, Demand Increase in Allowance

Date:

Agartala, 29th April 2026:   Retired home guards, after years of service alongside the police, are reportedly struggling with severe financial difficulties due to a meager monthly allowance. They claim that the current stipend of Rs 2,500 is insufficient to meet even basic living expenses.

On Wednesday, a delegation of retired home guards met with the Director General of Police to raise their concerns. During the meeting, they demanded that the monthly allowance be increased to at least ₹10,000 to help them cope with rising costs.

Members of the delegation stated that despite dedicating many years to supporting police operations and fulfilling various responsibilities, they are left without adequate financial security after retirement. With the continuous rise in prices, they said it has become extremely difficult to afford essential needs such as medicines and daily household expenses on the current allowance.

The delegation urged the government to take a humanitarian approach and address their grievances promptly. They also submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police, seeking immediate action on their demand.
