Agartala, 22nd June 2026: Leaders of the Joint Action Rehabilitation Committee (JARC) and Joint Action Committee (JAC), representing pre 1998 and post 1998 insurgent returnees, have submitted an ultimatum letter to the Chief Minister of Tripura demanding immediate action on a nine point charter of demands.
The committees allege that despite submitting a memorandum to the Tribal Welfare Minister on June 8, no official response has been received. They claim that nearly 1,200 non accepted returnees have been deprived of rehabilitation packages, unlike their accepted counterparts.
In the ultimatum, the leaders warned of launching an indefinite agitation and railway blockade along National Highway 8 and the Athuk Kwthang rail track from June 24, 2026, if their demands are not met.
The committees have demanded individual land allotment under the Power Tilla scheme, along with livestock support such as piggery, goat rearing, and milk cows under ARDB schemes. They seek inclusion in the Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission and housing under PMAY G for hardcore families. Another demand is the withdrawal of pending court cases against returnees.
They have also asked for the provision of 100 auto and e rickshaws from the Tribal Welfare Department, as well as educational facilities for returnee children in EMRS and Jawahar Navodaya schools. In addition, they want forest land rights under ROFR for landless families and the construction of markets with a working capital of ₹2.5 lakh per family.
The ultimatum bears signatures of committee leaders including Pasaram Tripura (President, JARC), Ananta Kumar Jamaita (General Secretary, JARC), Uttam Joy Reang (President, JAC), Leel Chandra Jamaitia (General Secretary, JAC), and others. Copies have been forwarded to senior officials including the Tribal Welfare Minister, Chief Secretary, Director of Tribal Welfare, District Magistrate, and police authorities.
The committees have urged the government to convene an official meeting within a week to resolve the matter amicably. Failure to do so, they warned, would compel them to intensify their agitation.
