Returnees on demand for CM assurance, no resolution after meeting with police

Date:

Agartala, 20th June 2026:   A planned indefinite blockade of railways and national highways from June 24 will not be withdrawn unless assurances are received from the Chief Minister, leaders of the JARC and JAC organizations stated on Saturday after a long meeting with the Special Branch Superintendent of Police.

Eight representatives from two surrendered insurgent groups met the Special Branch SP for nearly three hours. However, the discussion ended without any concrete resolution. Officials reportedly informed the delegation that a high-level meeting would likely be arranged within the next two to three days to further address their concerns.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, the leaders of both organizations reiterated that they would not call off their agitation unless they receive clear assurances from either the Chief Minister or the Home Department regarding their demands.

Meanwhile, the state government said it is maintaining regular communication with the Tribal Welfare Department and engaging with multiple groups, noting that there are several factions raising different demands at different times. Officials added that efforts are underway to resolve the issues through dialogue.

Chief Minister Manik Saha said the government is in continuous discussion with concerned groups and is committed to addressing their grievances. He emphasized that the administration is working to ensure that “dark days do not return” in Tripura and reiterated that issues should be resolved through dialogue.
