Agartala, 15th January 2026; Families in Narayanpur ADC Village under Dumboor Nagar block are reeling from continuous riverbank erosion along the Gandacherra stream near Debnath Para, with fears mounting that the situation could escalate dangerously once the monsoon arrives.
Locals report that the riverbank near Vivekananda Club has been steadily eroding for years, leaving households exposed to severe risk. Following repeated appeals, officials from the Water Resources Department recently inspected the site, engaged with affected families, and prepared an estimate for a protective wall. The proposal was forwarded to the Dumboor Nagar block office.
Despite this, residents allege that the plan has remained idle for months, with no visible progress on construction. With the rainy season only weeks away, villagers warn that the absence of a protective barrier could result in devastating losses.
The crisis is not confined to Debnath Para. Communities in Jagabandhu Para, Ultacherra, and Kalyan Singh ADC villages have raised similar concerns, pointing to stalled promises of protective wall construction at the block level.
People in these areas now await a decisive response from the Dhalai district administration, stressing that only swift intervention can prevent further erosion and safeguard vulnerable households.
