Agartala, 12th May 2025: A businessman in RK Nagar has become the latest victim of a fraudster gang reportedly operating across the state. The incident took place when Bhajan Chandra Das, a shop owner in RK Nagar received a call regarding the bulk purchase of construction rods.
Responding to the inquiry, Das arranged the delivery and subsequently transferred Rs 58,300 to the provided UPI ID as payment. However, after completing the transaction, the buyer’s phone was found to be switched off and the promised receipt of goods never materialized.
The fraud came to light when the supplier, from whom Das procured the rods, informed him that the payment had not been received. With assistance from the Bodhjungnagar police, the supplier recovered the goods. A cyber cell investigation later traced the transaction to a QR code linked to a young man named Hrishab Das from Khowai.
Police summoned Hrishab for questioning, during which he stated that the money had been transferred through his QR code by a Customer Service Point (CSP) representative in Khowai. The CSP manager, however, claimed that the actual recipient had withdrawn the cash.
Authorities continue to probe the incident, aiming to uncover the full extent of the fraudulent operation.
