Agartala, 18th May 2025: A shop located on Chechurimai National Highway under Bishramganj Police Station was looted late on Saturday night, sparking concerns among local traders. The victim, businessman Gautam Bhowmik, reported that various goods, including an expensive fridge, tea and coffee machines, chocolates, spices, cigarettes, and cold drinks, amounting to nearly 50,000 taka, were stolen.
“I closed the shop as usual at 10 pm and returned home. But when I arrived the next morning, I found the lock broken and many of my essential goods missing. This shop was our livelihood,” said Bhowmik, expressing his distress over the incident.
According to sources, Bhowmik and his wife had started the shop just two and a half months ago. The theft has left the couple devastated as their business was their primary source of income.
Upon receiving the report, Bishramganj Police Station’s Second Officer-in-Charge Mithun Saha reached the scene promptly. “A theft case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. We are looking into leads to identify the culprits,” stated Saha.
The robbery has intensified concerns among traders in the area, as several shops have been established recently along the highway, many lacking proper security. “We are living in fear. Thieves are targeting one shop after another. The administration must strengthen night security in the area,” demanded a local trader.
