Agartala, 7th April 2025:   Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday announced that the state government has allocated Rs 100 crore in the current budget for setting up a state-of-the-art eye hospital.

Speaking at a program organized by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura on the occasion of World Health Day in Agartala, Dr. Saha — who also holds the Health portfolio — emphasized the state’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system.

He said that alongside the upcoming eye hospital, the government has also started work on a Maternal and Child Clinic with support of over Rs 150 crore from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER). “Infrastructure development is underway, and we are also ramping up manpower. Prevention is better than cure. Staying physically fit is key to remaining disease-free,” he said.

Highlighting the growing peace and stability in the state, Dr. Saha noted that private hospitals and investors are now showing interest in Tripura. “We are also opening new Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state. Our goal is to ensure that people live happily and healthily,” he added.

Dr. Saha also underlined the importance of healthy living, stating that changing lifestyles is essential to avoid premature deaths. “We often advise others on healthy habits but fail to follow them ourselves. This needs to change,” he said.

Expressing concern over the rise in drug abuse, especially injectable drugs, and the corresponding increase in HIV/AIDS cases, the Chief Minister called for a united effort to combat the crisis. “Drug addiction is a major issue in the state. Everyone must join hands in this fight. The government stands with the people,” he asserted.

He also flagged child marriage as another area of concern, urging everyone to remain vigilant. “Child marriage causes long-term physical and mental harm. Our government is working on multiple fronts to address such issues,” Dr. Saha said.
