Agartala, 17th December 2025: A decision has been taken to set up a water treatment plant on a vacant plot at the Banibidyapith School premises in the capital. On Wednesday, the area’s MLA and Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor, Dipak Majumdar, visited the site for inspection. Officials from the Water Board and the municipal corporation were present during the visit.
It is reported that the area has been facing a long-standing problem with drinking water supply. To address this, an overhead water tank will be installed in conjunction with the water treatment plant at the Banibidyapith School premises.
Plans have also been made to set up a 5.5 ML water treatment plant on a 16-gonda plot at Netaji Adarsha Shiksha Mandir, as per the state government’s directive. Once operational, the plant will supply water to approximately 2,700 households across Ward Nos. 20 and 32, as well as Ramanagar areas 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.
The overhead tank, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 22 crore, will store water from the Netaji Adarsha Shiksha Mandir treatment plant and the Rampur Treatment Bank. Water will then be supplied to the surrounding areas from this tank, the Mayor stated.
Mayor Majumdar also emphasized that the project is being implemented with the full cooperation of local residents, and the school premises have been utilized to make this possible.
