Date:

Agartala, 15th August 2026:  An allegation of obstruction and assault surfaced in North Kalambhowra on Saturday during an Independence Day flag-hoisting programme organised by the CPI(M).

According to CPI(M) leaders, a group of people allegedly led by BJP gram pradhan Bapan Sarkar obstructed the hoisting of the national flag at the party’s local office in North Kalambhowra around 7 a.m.

The CPI(M) alleged that several of its leaders and workers, including area committee secretary Nirmal Sarkar, Bijoy Bhushan Sarkar and youth leader Chandran Sarkar, were assaulted during the incident.

The party identified Abhijit Sarkar, Kanti Sarkar and Ram Krishna Sarkar alias Tempa, among others, as those allegedly involved.

CPI(M) leaders condemned the alleged incident, stating that Independence Day and the national flag should remain above political differences and that every citizen has the right to observe the national occasion.

The allegations could not be independently verified, and a detailed statement from the police or the accused persons was not immediately available.
